MISSION STATEMENT

    The Seymour Democratic Town Committee is proud to bring this site to you as a means of letting the public know what is happening in our community. We encourage you to tour our Web Site and learn about our Town Committee. We are actively seeking citizens interested in getting involved in local issues and promoting democratic ideals so we could provide a brighter future for all our residents. Seymour needs more public participation. Write a letter to the editor, come to Town Meetings and express your opinions! Our Town Committee wants to help create a community where everyone can enjoy a superior quality of life while still participating in the democratic process that all citizens are entitled to. OUR VISION

       We believe our Town of Seymour achieves greatness when our leaders and our community at large are committed to:

        Competence In Leadership - our Town Committee cherishes the attitudes of professionalism, openness and decisiveness, with a focus on the future.

        Intelligent Growth - development, in any fashion, should be consistent with the existing character of Seymour.

        Environmental Stewardship - sustaining the balance between the beauty and environmental health of a rural community and the convenience of suburban life.

        The Seymour Democratic Town Committee is committed to maintaining a balance between progressive attitudes and small Town atmosphere by identifying and promoting leadership that advances our Guiding Principle and our Vision.

OUR GOALS

        To achieve our goals the Seymour Democratic Town Committee commits to the following:

        Our Quality Of Life:

        No community is complete without robust programs and well-designed and maintained sites for active public recreation. We shall continue to call for improvement of our parks and waterways while staying cognizant of the need to keep within the constraints of a responsible operating budget. Our neighbors in need must not be left behind and should be assisted by local, state and federal programs whenever possible.

       Our Environment:

       No community is healthy without adequate protection of its wateresources, including the natural environment and/or sources of its drinking water. We support programs that address protection and preservation of the Naugatuck Valley's watershed areas.

       Our commitment to the proactive acquisition and preservation of Open Space Management must be enhanced. We fully support the efforts of the Seymour Land Trust, Legion Pool, and other comparable environmental organizations that help regenerate the natural beauty and resources of our community.

       Our Families:

       The health and vitality of Seymour is tied to addressing the needs of our youth and young adults. We support strong and ongoing programs for all members of our families. We celebrate the concept of volunteerism and believe that all interested parties should be given every opportunity to participate in programs that enhance community spirit and personal growth. We fully support the efforts of existing volunteer groups and encourage the formation of exciting new programs.

        Our Education:     

      Since quality education is fundamental to a vital community, we firmly commit to the establishment of programs and policies that create the highest standards for educationin the Seymour public schools. Funding of these programs must include an increase in proportionate cost sharing by the State of Connecticut. We believe wholeheartedly that Seymour should be a leader in preparing its students to make valuable contributions to a skilled and competitive work force.

       Our Seniors:

       The seymour Democratic Town Committee recognizes that the foundation of our local heritage is made stronger by seniors who are able to participate, without restriction, in community events. We support programs that provide easy access to cultural activities and life long learning.

       Our Fiscal Responsibility:

       No community can survive if its population cannot afford the cost of living. We believe the budgeting process for Seymour's services should be sensitive to, and consistent with, our residents ability to pay.

       Our Town Operations:

       We insist on an open and transparent government that must strive to be unsurpassed in the quality and quantity of its services. The Democratic Town Committee calls on Seymour officials to enhance and expand its Web Site and Video Taping opportunities so residents have an opportunity for immediate access to Public Access facilities that document Town government events and activities.

       We believe that Seymour government must be forward thinking and progressive. The future needs of our community should be continually evaluated and addressed with well-designed services and programs. Since our Town employees are a critical force for making Seymour a quality place to live, we call for the development of programs that enhance the recruitment, retention and training of a motivated workforce. Our First Selectman and other municipal leaders must be held to exacting standards of leadership so they can be admired by our citizens as well as our neighboring communities.

       Our Infrastructure:

       We believe that Town roads must be kept modern and safe and must not be taken for granted. Our leaders must focus on upkeep and improvement of our environment and byways. Seymour's Economic Development Commission has proposed an enviable plan that will augment our commercial and industrial tax base that should help stabilize our commuity for the foreseeable future.We believe that any development must adhere to the highest standards of environmental responsibility.

       Our Commitment To Our State And National Platforms:

       As Democrats, we support the principles of the Connecticut and National Parties.

       Our Democratic Town Committee meets every 2nd Monday of the month at the Community Center at 7:00 PM.Come visit us. Your thoughts and ideas will be greatly appreciated.
